Shopping With Your Heart Just Got Easier—More Humane Products Are a Click Away!

Tired of feeling confused and misled by food labels at the grocery store? Claims like “natural” and “humanely raised” jump out from packaging, but it can be a challenge to figure out which labels really equate to more humane standards for farm animals. Luckily the ASPCA Shop With Your Heart program easily breaks down those labels and makes it simple to discern meaningful claims at a glance. And now, finding more humane meat, eggs and dairy in stores and online is even easier.

Our ever-popular Shop With Your Heart Brand List names the meat, egg and dairy products that have earned an independent animal welfare certification, as well as plant-based alternatives. The latest tool on the Brand List is a “Where To Buy” feature that points conscientious consumers directly to the product’s online purchase page or a company webpage showing in-store locations. While you’re out shopping, look out for any of these three logos for verification of higher on-farm standards for farm animals:

If you can’t find more humane animal products in your favorite local markets, use our example tweets or customizable letter templates to reach out to these companies through social media, email or in person to request the welfare-certified or plant-based items you would like to purchase. By showing business owners that there is a demand for more humane options, you are creating a kinder world for farm animals and helping other shoppers do the same. Together, we can create a better world—click by click, meal by meal.
