As we approach National Animal Advocacy Day this Thursday, we know that millions of our community members—humans and animals alike—are facing challenging times.
At the ASPCA, we, too, are adjusting to new realities. To help animals as much as possible during the COVID-19 crisis, the ASPCA has continued to provide direct animal care and has set up regional pet food distribution centers. Through our appointment-only programs, we’ve already provided food for more than 20,000 dogs, cats and horses—and that number continues to rise. However, we’ve also witnessed entire systems break down and seen government agencies abandon their responsibilities to protect animals and workers during this crisis.
Through all of this uncertainty, animals are still suffering—and we know that meaningful legal changes are key to creating a safer world for our companions. That’s why we are hosting a webinar this Thursday, April 30, that will highlight the importance of effective and impactful grassroots engagement and simplify the process of how a bill becomes a law. When Congress resumes a more normal schedule, you will be prepared to advocate for animals by urging your lawmakers to pass stronger animal welfare laws.
This live webinar, How a Bill Becomes a Law–The Legislative Process for Animal Advocates, will take place on April 30, at 2:00 PM ET. We will kick it off with live inspirational messages from Matt Bershadker, ASPCA President and CEO, and U.S. Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Co-Chair of the Animal Protection Caucus.
After an introduction by our special guests, our Legislative Engagement team will break down the legislative process, which will enable you to help secure meaningful reforms for animals. Finally, you’ll hear about how you can commit to protecting animals and take action in honor of National Animal Advocacy Day. We will introduce you to programs made up of advocates just like you who lobby and influence their elected officials, even in this current era of exclusively virtual advocacy.
Knowledge is “paw-er,” and animals all over the country need your help—especially now. You can celebrate National Animal Advocacy Day every day by making a difference for animals in your state and across the country. Consider joining one of the ASPCA’s advocacy volunteer programs to help us pass animal-friendly legislation and mobilize other animal advocates in your community.
